My friend Kierston just sent me this great video. I knew I had to share it immediately, as it is Friday, customary day of catblogging.

Sometimes, if I am lucky, my cats do something like this...
I once heard of the custom of posting cat entries on Fridays, to which I respond:

And of course, the coup de grasse:

My cat Keiko is very hard to photograph. She's always on the move, and is so curious she always wants to sniff the lens. Her sister Roxy is extremely photogenic. Roxy seems to sort of pose when you take shots of her. I kept getting decent shots of Roxy over and over and over, but I felt I was neglecting Keiko a bit. So one day I chased her around the apartment and managed to snap some of these:

It would be hard to miss that the colder months are upon us. Luckily my electronic equipment generates enough heat that I haven't had to turn my baseboard in the work room yet. So I am still in a sort of denial, I think.

Keiko-cat has actually noticed recently that the electronics are warm -- and as a result she has taken to snuggling up on them. Right now she is blissfully sitting on my audio breakout box, which acts as a little heating pad for her. It's exactly the length of her body. Her other favourite spot is on top of the amplifier in the living room which gets quite toasty. That spot has the added bonus or being inside a little cubby, which is a double-plus-bonus for a cat. Who wouldn't like that?

If you read my entry about my cat Roxy's love for all things sticky, you can probably predict what happened when I got the CD Stomper today. I made my first CD label, and predictably Roxy made her appearance and squealed at me. She wanted to stand on top of the sheet of labels, and rub her face in it. Once I half-peeled the label off she got even more excited -- I had to de-cat my desk over and over again and she wouldn't stay off. Finally I distracted her with small pieces of the label sheet trimmings. It was almost impossible to peel the label off and stick it down.

I think she was freaking out a bit, it was the biggest sticky item I think she's ever seen. It would be like if I saw a chocolate bar the size of Ontario.

OMFG! My sweetie just sent me this hilarious Youtube movie about 3 seconds ago. I knew I had to post it immediately.

This cat looks and sounds like a Bengal. I wonder if my 2 Bengal fuzzballs would enjoy a wheel like this? And where on earth could I fit it in my 2 bedroom appartment?

They certainly love tearing up and down the hallway at Max Speed. You wouldn't believe how fast my Bengals can go. I think they could break the sound barrier.

Roxy a hair more than Keiko. What continually floors me is the phenomenal range of language they possess. Sometimes they chirp ("mreep"), chortle ("mek mek mek"), howl ("mroooooowwwwr") or do the max-uber-adorable kitten meow ("mew"). When they really want to lay on the cuteness thickly they bring out the latter in delicate little doses. Just enough to reduce you to a cuddle-puddle.

Roxy even has one word that sounds decidedly like a somewhat desperate "nooooooooooo!!!"

Keiko actually coos a ton, at least 50% of what she says at any given time is a 'rrrr'... she has of course tons of variations on this sound -- which she likes to use to ask questions and answer them (among other things.) Keiko and Roxy also seem to have a special meow which they use to call each other, it's two very affectionate descending pitched syllables, like "meeeeeee ooow"...quite touching.

I like how conversational they are. They are extremely expressive, with their ears, face, tails and voices... Which makes them terrific company.

She'll be pawing the air, howling, sticking her fibrillating face in mine: saying "I WANT SOME TAPE SOOOOOO BAD!" (Note: My mother accuses me of anthropormorphizing all the time, but in this case I think I can safely guess at her motive. She is just THAT insistant. )

I've discovered recently that the thing she loves best is my label-maker. I got one for Christmas and the sound of its little motor whirring out a fresh label gets her SO animated! If I tear one off and set it down, she harvests it instantly. She actually makes it kind of hard to label stuff... I have to sort of turn and hide from her, or she'll steal it right out of my hand. She'll even peel labels off of things once they're stuck down! I find them occasionally missing, tucked underneath some piece of furniture, getting intimate with a dust bunny.

That might sound slightly aggravating, but I assure you it's all worth it for the euphoric look she gets on her face. Yesterday, I made a fresh label that said "Roxy's Label" and plopped her on my lap. She turned into an enraptured mass of mushy hair as she played with her label. Then I stuck it in on her tail and plopped her on the floor. She ran around in mad mad circles trying to get it... flicking it off... then played with it some more. When she was done, she looked profoundly satisfied and took a really angelic nap.

Maybe I should unleash her on my old sticker collection? One less thing to hang onto then... "Uhm, my cat ate it!"
